After being named to the All-SEC freshman team in 2017, Hines was headed towards a breakout season before an ACL tear against Clemson abruptly ended his sophomore campaign. Widely assumed as the fastest linebacker on the roster prior to the injury, the Plano, Texas, native looks to return to form after vigorously rehabbing his knee in the offseason.

With the pair of Otaro Alaka and Tyrel Dodson headed for the NFL, Hines is expected to walk back into a starting role on Elko’s defense. The former four-star prospect has an elite motor, is a sure tackler, and plays instinctively.

He’s also a proven commodity in the passing game. As a freshman, Hines recorded three sacks and a forced fumble while rushing the passer, and reports out of the Bright Complex have indicated that he has flourished in coverage during 7-on-7 workouts.

Alongside fellow third-year backer Buddy Johnson, the coaching staff is hopeful Hines will play a pivotal role for the Wrecking Crew this season.
