After losing in the AAC title game each of the past two years, Memphis football will look to break through for the conference crown with a loaded roster.

Mike Norvell’s team has been right there among the Group of Five greats over the past two seasons. Memphis won the AAC West title in 2017 and 2018, only to run into the buzzsaw that has been UCF over the past two seasons.

The Tigers have gone 18-5 in their two most recent campaigns against everyone except the Knights, and 0-4 against UCF. Last season’s AAC championship game was a gut punch, as the Tigers lost 56-41 in a Knights comeback led by backup quarterback Darriel Mack Jr.

Memphis led 38-21 at halftime.

This year the Tigers will try to put that heartbreak behind them as they pick up the pieces and prepare for a new season. A loaded roster will have a great shot to make waves early and often, starting with a statement opportunity against an SEC opponent.

Both sides of the ball are packed with experience, making Memphis one of the frontrunners to contend once again in the American race. Keep reading as we dive in to look at the stacked offense and defense before evaluating the schedule and assessing whether the Tigers can get over the final hurdle this year.
