Defense must replace a handful of key players

Not only did Steve Addazio replace his offensive coordinator, but he also replaced his defensive coordinator. He promoted Bill Sheridan to defensive coordinator who served as linebackers coach and demoted former coordinator Jim Reid to defensive ends coach.

Sheridan has a tough task in his first year as defensive coordinator. He has to replace most of his starters from last years defense and returns only five players with any starting experience.

Last year’s defense was rock-solid primarily because it featured four NFL prospects. This year’s team will be looking for some young players to step up and play well.

Sheridan hopes Brandon Barlow and Clemson grad transfer Richard Yeargin can replace some of the production left by Zach Allen and Wyatt Ray. Brandon Sebastian and Tate Haynes are candidates to replace Hamp Cheevers and Taj-Amir Torris, but that is very much up in the air.
