A Northwestern football commit from Michigan was cheated out of his high school senior season after a controversial ruling of ineligibility.

Leave it up to Northwestern to have a future player that is just too smart for his own good.

Abdur-Rahmaan Yaseen, a three-star commit from Walled Lake, Mich., was ruled ineligible for his senior season with Walled Lake Western by the Michigan High School Athletic Association (or MHSAA) after taking too many classes before he was in high school.

Yaseen was actually home-schooled before he entered high school and according to reports, he actually came to Western as a sophomore, on paper, but the team’s football coach was never informed of that — and apparently Yaseen wasn’t either.

It’s unfortunate to see this type of ruling because even if he did finish all of his credits early, he should be able to play his final year of high school football and be able to close out his career with his teammates and best friends, chasing a state title. The MHSAA cheated him out of that just because he took too many advanced classes before he was in high school — which is exactly why Northwestern is the perfect fit for him academically.

Even college football players can play their final year of on-field eligibility after graduating as students. It’s not like Yaseen would be skipping school and just playing football in 2019, but the MHSAA classifies him as a super senior.

Yaseen will be enrolling early at Northwestern in January no matter what the MHSAA ultimately decides after an appeal.

It looks like Yaseen will fit right in at Northwestern in the coming years and don’t be surprised if he finishes his credits in three years.
