Syracuse Football: Can Orange take that next step in 2019?
By Daniel Smyth
How will the Orange fare in 2019?
- Week 1: at Liberty (Aug. 31)
- Week 2: at Maryland (Sep. 7)
- Week 3: vs. Clemson (Sep. 14)
- Week 4: vs. Western Michigan (Sep. 21)
- Week 5: vs. Holy Cross (Sep. 28)
- Week 6: Bye
- Week 7: at NC State (Oct. 10)
- Week 8: vs. Pitt (Oct. 18)
- Week 9: at Florida State (Oct. 26)
- Week 10: vs. Boston College (Nov. 2)
- Week 11: BYE
- Week 12: at Duke (Nov. 16)
- Week 13: at Louisville (Nov. 23)
- Week 14: vs. Wake Forest (Nov. 30)
Other than facing defending National Champion Clemson in Week 3 this schedule is very manageable for Syracuse. Liberty, Western Michigan and Holy Cross will be three easy wins for the Orange.
Certainly facing Clemson at home gives Syracuse an edge, but Clemson is loaded this season and should defeat the Orange. If Syracuse wins this game then they will be in the driver’s seat in the ACC Atlantic Division. This game will be a close on just like the past two contests, but Trevor Lawrence will be the key difference in this one.
Clemson sneaks away with a tight victory.
Prediction 10-2, 6-2 ACC
The Orange will be 4-1 entering the first bye week. I believe they will come out and beat NC State with an extra week to prepare for them and then get their revenge on Pitt from last season.
However, they end up dropping a game at Florida State.
Boston College, Duke, Louisville and Wake Forest should be manageable for the Orange and I truly believe they will run the table against these average ACC teams.
If this record holds it is very likely Syracuse could be playing in a New Year’s Six Bowl. It would be very fitting if the Orange were to play in the Orange Bowl.
