Texas A&M football has quite the schedule ahead of it. What are the keys to success for the Aggies as they tackle it in 2019?

The Aggies will face off against some big-name teams in 2019: Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and LSU, just to name a few. All four of those teams will be ranked within the top 10 at the start of the season, that much I can promise you.

How will the Aggies fare with such a tough schedule? That is unknown, but what we do know is what exactly they have to do to be successful.

On that note, let’s talk keys to success for the Aggies in 2019, beginning under center with Kellen Mond.

3. Kellen Mond has to grow and be a leader on and off the field

So far, what we have seen from Kellen Mond in the spring game and in fall camp points to him achieving this point. His poise has been better and the way he speaks in interviews makes me feel like he has grown from the young guy under a new head coach into an experienced junior ready to take on the SEC. His comments on how he has grown can be heard below.

It will help that Mond has a plethora of options to throw to and a great running game to rely on, but can he push his completion percentage past the 60 percent mark? Can he drop those interception numbers to under five? He threw nine in 2018, which isn’t a lot in the grand scheme of things, but those bad throws add up when you are playing a schedule like the Aggies are.

The key to success here is simply Mond stepping up in what may be his last year in Aggieland and showing the world what he is capable of doing.

Jimbo Fisher is never satisfied with his quarterback, he said that multiple times, but can Mond make him at least happy with what he is able to put together on the field? We are just a few weeks away from finding out what the answer is to that one, especially when this team heads to Clemson in Week 2.
