Can second-year head coach Herman Edwards continue to build the Arizona State football program and lead it to another bowl game?

Arizona State hiring Herman Edwards was supposed to be a farce. It was supposed to be a disaster, and quick — at least that’s how the national media saw it.

Edwards hadn’t coached since 2009 and had never been a head coach on the college level. He had a brief stint as a defensive assistant at San José State in the 1980s. Most pundits believed that Edwards was only going to be the “mouthpiece” for the program and let the assistants coach, but as he himself said, “give me some grass and watch me coach.”

And coach he did.

In fact, he led the Sun Devils to a 7-6 record and a berth in the Las Vegas Bowl — and the Sun Devils were even ranked early in the season after an upset win over Michigan State.

What will this season bring? Can they contend in the Pac-12 South? Here’s a look at their offense, defense and a record prediction for the season.
