BYU Football: Game-by-game predictions for 2019 season
By Zach Bigalke
This year’s Boise State team is good enough to make another run at a New Year’s Six bowl berth and possibly even a perfect regular season. Though they lose offensive catalysts like Brett Rypien, the Broncos have traditionally been able to plug in another highly-touted recruit under center and keep on moving forward.
The defense should be really good in Boise this season as the Broncos return more than three-quarters of last year’s defensive productivity.
The Broncos have had BYU’s number in recent years, winning each of the last three contests against the Cougars and four of their last five meetings. This year the game takes place in Provo, though, where BYU has won two of their past three home contests against the Broncos. They will have plenty of motivation to down their regional rivals, but motivation will only take the Cougars so far.
In the end, this is going to be another disappointing finish at home against a rival in the same vein as the projected Holy War defeat. BYU’s defense is going to struggle whether it is Chase Cord or Hank Bachmeier under center for the Broncos, and the Boise State defense is going to prove itself one of the best in the country this season as they stifle the running game and make life difficult for Zach Wilson.
Prediction: Boise State 38, BYU 28 (4-3)
