Iowa State Football: Big 12 title a serious possibility in 2019
Iowa State football will be looking to make a run at the Big 12 title in 2019 and that’s no longer a dream but rather closer to reality.
The Iowa State football program and its fans have plenty to be excited about heading into the 2019 season. The Cyclones are coming off back-to-back 8-5 seasons, which is the program’s best two-year stretch since the late 1970s and the highest win totals since 2000 when they went 9-3.
They also have three victories against top 10 opponents the past two seasons.
In 2017, they upset No. 3 ranked Oklahoma and No. 4 TCU and in 2018, the Cyclones beat No. 6 West Virginia. While the past two seasons have been two of Iowa State’s most exciting seasons as of late, many people expect 2019 to be even better despite losing some of its top players from last year.
Head Coach Matt Campbell is heading into his fourth year as the head coach of Iowa State. Anyone that keeps up with college football knows of the recognition he has been getting lately and has heard all the talk of him potentially taking a bigger job. However, right now he is coaching at Iowa State and is looking to lead the Cyclones to taking the next step as a program.
In Campbell’s first season as the head coach they went 3-9 but since then they have been 8-5 each of the last two seasons. Before Campbell got to Iowa State, they Cyclones hadn’t had a winning season since 2009 despite playing in bowl games in 2011 and 2012. If you fast forward to 2019, the Cyclones are now in contention for the Big 12 title.
Campbell has done a great job changing the program in a short amount of time and the Cyclones will look for their best season yet under his reign.
