Alabama football has a few weaknesses on the team, but one is about to be filled by freshman linebacker Christian Harris.

It seems hard to actually believe that there are some weaknesses on the Alabama football team. Every offseason, the Tide plug in five-star talents to replace their five-star talents. However, there is a weakness on the defense at inside linebacker, and Alabama has appeared to have found its answer in freshman Christian Harris.

The weakness has been obvious since Alabama lost Mack Wilson to the NFL Draft. The only proven talent at inside linebacker left is Dylan Moses. No matter how good Moses is, the Tide need two inside linebackers to run their system.

The answer appeared to be Joshua McMillon, but he recently went down with a season-ending knee injury. An injury to a starter this close to Week 1 could have devastating consequences, and there didn’t seem to be an answer as to who would be the new starting inside linebacker.

However, it came out that Alabama started Harris in its latest scrimmage, and it appears he is the Tide’s answer at the Will linebacker slot.

This is good news for Alabama football for many reasons. It could be a concern to start a freshman in the SEC, but someone is going to have to likely replace Moses as the signal-caller for the defense next year, so starting a younger player helps in the future.

Also, this opportunity did not fall into Harris’s lap. No one has been talking about him as a potential starter for the Tide until this scrimmage. There are a small handful of other linebackers who have been above him on the depth chart all summer. This means that Harris is doing what it takes to earn the right to start, which is all you can really ask for in the wake of an injury.

We will have to wait to see Harris in a game, but the hope is that he is the future at inside linebacker for Alabama, and he is doing his part to become a breakout player for the Tide in 2019.
