2. Points will be at a premium (take the under)

These defenses wake up echoes of the great Florida and Miami units of the past. You think of great Gators players like Javon Kearse, Brandon Spikes, Ahmad Black and Derek Harvey. People forget how good Florida’s defenses were because of Spurrier ball and Tebowing.

When you think of the Hurricanes, you think defense. Ray Lewis, Bennie Blades, Antrel Rolle, Warren Sapp, Ed Reed and Jerome Brown are some of the many names of legend that played in Coral Gables.

These defenses are creating their own mark for these historic programs. Both of them have something to take advantage of with both of these offenses.

Miami might be young in the secondary, but Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks was only a 58 percent passer last season. Miami’s pass rush might make those numbers worse. The Gators will attempt to run against the Hurricane front-seven just to keep them honest and not pin their ears back and come after Franks in three and four wide receiver sets.

The Gators are going to attempt to take advantage of the Hurricanes’ inexperienced starting quarterback redshirt freshman Jarren Williams, a highly-touted recruit. He has played sparingly since arriving on campus. The strength of the Gator defense is their secondary. Florida defensive coordinator Todd Grantham’s defense returns six defensive backs with at least five starts.

Expect the Gators to confuse the young redshirt quarterback all game long. The over/under for this game is 47.5 so take the under — way under. These defenses are going to get after it Friday.
