Last time Mississippi State opened up the season against a Sun Belt team they ended up losing 21-20 to South Alabama in 2016. So even though the Bulldogs should win this matchup against the Ragin’ Cajuns, if they overlook them or don’t give them the attention they deserve, they absolutely could slip up.

The Ragin’ Cajuns made it to the Sun Belt Championship Game last year where they lost to App State 30-19. Louisiana will be one of the better teams in the Sun Belt again this year and will come out against Mississippi State fired up and looking for the upset win.

However, Mississippi State’s schedule is difficult and they know they can not afford to lose to Louisiana. They will have a slow start to the game as they are breaking in their new quarterback, but will pick it up in the second half and win by several scores.

While this won’t be a blowout Bulldog fans won’t have to sweat about a potential upset.

Final Score: Louisiana 13, Mississippi State 35 (1-0)
