12. Penn State University: Beaver Stadium

Beaver Stadium is one of those iconic venues that you have to visit at least once before you die, as it is one of the more electric atmospheres in all of college football. The home of the Penn State Nittany Lions, Beaver Stadium has been around in some parts since 1909, but the true structure opened up in 1960.

Named after James A. Beaver, a former governor for Pennsylvania, Beaver Stadium is not only the second-biggest stadium in the western hemisphere but the third-largest in the entire world. Nittany Lions pack the stadium on game days, cheering on a Penn State program that has become one of the gold standards in college football.

The thing that makes Beaver Stadium stand out so much is not so much its size, which is impressive, but the incredible student section that Penn State has. Yearly rated as the best in the country, the students fill up Beaver Stadium early when their Nittany Lions are at home, consistently reaching the 106,572 capacity mark.

Whether you are there for white-out games or are sitting and seeing girls get thrown up in the air after every score, the scene inside Beaver Stadium is quite impressive. The Penn State program has had incredible success, winning two national titles and nearly 900 games overall since coming to existence in 1887. That is thanks in large part to having an incredible home-field advantage.
