College Football: 25 best home-field advantages in the game today
By Brad Weiss
22. Auburn University: Jordan-Hare Stadium
The Auburn Tigers have had their fair share of winning in the past, bringing home national titles and being a perennial contender in a very tough SEC. When they play at home, they have a distinct advantage, as Jordan-Hare Stadium is one of the harder venues to play in for opposing teams.
Named for Shug Jordan, who has the most wins in school history, and Cliff Hare, who was a member of the first-ever Auburn football team, this stadium is one of the 10 biggest in the nation. With a maximum seat capacity of nearly 90,000, there is plenty of room for Auburn fans to fill the stadium weekly, and they certainly bring the thunder on game day.
On game days, so many fans pack Jordan-Hare Stadium that it is the fifth-largest city in Alabama during the game. In 2005, the field at the stadium was named Pat Dye Field, after Pat Dye, who served as the school’s head football coach and athletic director back in the early 1980s through the early 1990s.
There is a reason that College GameDay loves to visit this stadium, as it boasts some of the best fans in college football. Nobody likes to go into Jordan-Hare Stadium to take on the Tigers, thanks to one of the loudest atmospheres in the nation. When “War Eagle” starts playing, it can be downright deafening.
