32. Texas Tech

The good

Texas Tech has always been able to engineer spurts of brilliance which make being a fan of the Red Raiders a constant adventure. With this team, there always seems to be the chance for something crazy to happen.

The bad

At their best, Texas Tech is the third show in their own state. At their worst, the Red Raiders get passed over for prime time tv spots by non-Texas programs like Iowa State and West Virginia.

The bottom line

It still doesn’t make much sense that Texas Tech was able to fire a former head coach into an NFL head coaching gig, but that more or less sums up what life is like in Lubbock these days. Texas Tech is erratic, entirely unpredictable to a fault. It’s hard to ever put too much stock in this program’s ceiling, but the explosive offenses fielded by the likes of  Mike Leach and Kliff Kingsbury make every game worth tuning into, and the fans show up.

Given their pedigree and status in the Big 12, Texas Tech tends to bat at a pretty decent clip. The Red Raiders tend to be relentlessly entertaining, in an exhausting sort of way.
