11. Penn State

The good

A packed stadium donned in all white for the Nittany Lions’ annual White Out game is a wondrous sight. Penn State has never lacked commitment, showcasing their spirit to the Nth degree in every way they possibly can.

The bad

The scandal that rocked the program put a black mark on a program which had always been among the most reputable brands in the sport. In many ways, Joe Paterno’s legacy was Penn State’s legacy.

The bottom line

Penn State football was left for dead with murmurings of SMU’s “Death Penalty”. Bill O’Brien and later James Franklin helped restore the program back toward its historic spot near the top of the Big Ten pecking order. The Nittany Lions have won a conference title since Paterno’s exit. It was an arduous road back, but they’re back in the mix.

The revival of the program and the unwavering support of the team itself separates Happy Valley from its peers. Penn State’s fans have braved the storm and are hopeful a national title will soon follow.
