Is 2019 the season Nebraska football is finally back on top of the Big Ten West? Scott Frost will have the Cornhuskers competing once again.
Record-wise, Scott Frost’s first season as the head coach at Nebraska did not go according to plan. He opened up with losses to Colorado and to Troy, games which they probably should have won. If they win those two games they make a bowl game last year. Starting quarterback Adrian Martinez did get injured against Colorado and missed the game against Troy, but Nebraska should still have come out on top.
While they finished 4-8 in 2018 for the second straight year, there was plenty of optimism for Cornhusker fans as it was evident the culture at Nebraska was shifting in the right direction.
So even though the record may not have been what fans wanted it to be, they are still on the right path. In fact, over their last seven games of the 2018 season the Cornhuskers went 4-3 with a three-point overtime loss to Northwestern, a five-point loss to Ohio State and a three-point loss to Iowa.
The Cornhuskers have bought into what Frost has been preaching and I expect a complete turnaround, record-wise, for Nebraska this year. They will be led by their star sophomore quarterback who threw for over 2,600 yards, rushed for over 600 yards and had 25 total touchdowns as a true freshman last year.
The Big Ten West is becoming more competitive as a whole with multiple teams improving. Nebraska is one of the favorites to win the West and while we wait to see if the Cornhuskers actually can, it’s safe to assume they will at least be in contention to make it to the title game.
