Washington State football had an 11 win season in 2018. How will the Cougars’ 2019 season compare to their 2018 campaign?

Going into the 2018 season, many people in the media, and those who cover college football, were not predicting a very good year for the Cougars. First off, all those people were wrong. Second, when will we learn not to bet against a team that is coached by Mike Leach?

The Cougars ended up having one of their best seasons in program history. They reached a bowl game for their fourth straight year, they won 11 games and their first double-digit win campaign since 2003 and finished off the season with a bowl win against Iowa State.

The Cougars had one of the best quarterbacks in the nation last year in Gardner Minshew as well. He threw for over 4,700 yards with 38 passing touchdowns. He was a transfer from East Carolina and continued the tradition of solid quarterback play at Washington State under Leach. Minshew was drafted in the sixth round by the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Cougars had several guys competing to take over the starting job in 2019, but Anthony Gordon was just named the starter.

Despite the loss at quarterback, the Cougars should be in the run for the Pac-12 title. With Leach as the head coach, you never know what could happen this season.
