In what should be nothing more than an audition for the rest of the season, Texas A&M football takes on Texas State on Thursday.

Texas A&M opens the season with the Texas State Bobcats- a team that should be beaten pretty easily assuming that the Aggies are on their game and ready to play. This team is beginning a gauntlet of a schedule in Week 2, so opening with someone like Texas State is like a breath of fresh air before what is coming later in the season — you know, one of the scariest schedules in the nation.

Before all of that though what does this Aggie team have to do to win against Texas State? It’s pretty simple really, but let’s talk keys to the game, starting with the offensive line.

3. The offensive line has to give Kellen Mond time

Texas A&M lost two big names on the offensive line to the NFL after the 2019 campaign in guard Keaton Sutherland and center Erik McCoy. Both of those are big losses for this team, even with the amount of experience still left along this unit.

They will be the most important unit throughout this game for sure. They have to give Kellen Mond time to do what he needs to do with the ball. If they don’t, then bad things can happen. If they do, the running game establishes itself as does the passing game and the Aggies can run away with this one.

Look for true freshman Kenyon Green to make a splash at right guard. Everyone is quite excited for his time in Aggieland and it all starts on Thursday against Texas State. New center Ryan McCollum looks to step in seamlessly into McCoy’s spot and all eyes will be on him to see if he can do just that.
