1. Shenault-Montez connection will have huge day

In last year’s installment of the Rocky Mountain Showdown, both Steven Montez and Laviska Shenault had huge games. Montez threw more touchdowns (4) than incomplete passes (3) on his way to 338 yards through the air and a 246.6 quarterback rating. Shenault had 11 receptions for 211 yards and a touchdown.

Four of the top six defensive backs are gone from the Rams‘ secondary. It might be addition by subtraction for the Rams (at least they hope) since they surrendered 235 yards per game passing and opposing quarterbacks completed 63 percent of their passes against them. The Rams are going to give Shenault all of their attention, and it still might not matter.

Shenault scored five rushing touchdowns last season, so expect him to line up all over the field against the Rams. He’ll get it the end zone in a myriad of ways.

The Buffaloes and offensive coordinator Jay Johnson will find a way for Montez to get him the ball. He will throw for at least four touchdowns again, and Shenault will grab at least two or three of them.
