Purdue football starts its 2019 season on the road in Reno to take on the Nevada Wolf Pack. Let’s get bold ahead of the sneaky-good matchup.

The Boilermakers travel to Reno, Nev., for the first time to take on Jay Norvell and the Wolf Pack.

This could be a tricky game for the Boilers because the Wolf Pack have some good skill position players on offense. What will happen in this game?

3. The over/under is 58.5 — take the over

You might be reading this and saying, “But Nevada is starting a quarterback that hasn’t played since his junior year in high school.” I would reply, “You are absolutely right, they are.”

Redshirt freshman Carson Strong hasn’t played a meaningful down of football since his junior year of high school due to an injury his senior year. With Ty Gangi graduated and Cristian Solano injuring his hand in camp, Strong beat out three other quarterbacks to win the job, so he’s qualified. Not only that, he has good skill position personnel around him.

Moreover, Purdue had one of the worst defenses in the nation last year. We know Purdue is bringing that Jeff Brohm spread and plenty of speed to go along with it. All-everything receiver Rondale Moore — we’ll talk him up later — and tight end Brycen Hopkins will collect the lion’s share of receptions.

Oh, and toss in the fact that both teams don’t exactly scare anyone with their pass rush and secondary, you have a recipe for a high-scoring game.
