3. Brandon Wimbush might be the answer

While McKenzie Milton was out at the end of last season, Darriel Mack Jr. took over under center for UCF. In his two games starting, Mack Jr. played relatively well, especially once he got in a rhythm in the American Athletic Conference Championship Game. Many felt comfortable with Mack Jr. taking over the team heading into the 2019 season.

However, it appears as though that plan was not meant to be.

Shortly after the season ended, Brandon Wimbush entered the transfer portal from Notre Dame. Wimbush saw significant playing time with the Fighting Irish, however, he eventually lost the job to Ian Book. Notre Dame’s offensive production appeared to have improved once Book took over, which solidified his starting spot and led to Wimbush’s eventual departure.

UCF recruited Wimbush hard and won.

Similarly, Wimbush won the starting quarterback job in the offseason, and he appeared to have been the right choice. It only took five plays for him to lead the Knights to their first touchdown of the season. Wimbush finished the game with 168 yards and two passing touchdowns. Although he did not play the entire game, I think it is clear he will be starting the next game.
