UCF Football: 3 takeaways from Knights’ dominant Week 1 win over FAMU
2. UCF has to like its playoff chances
There’s nothing the UCF Knights can do about being in the American Athletic Conference — for the time being. And well, there isn’t anything they can do about the way the AAC is perceived by the College Football Playoff committee. So what exactly can the Knights do to have a chance at the College Football Playoff?
Simply, the UCF Knights are going to need to absolutely blow out every single one of their opponents. A “blowout” against Stanford, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Houston can really be defined by anything greater than a two-touchdown victory. However, against teams like UConn, East Carolina and even Tulsa, they will need to win by a margin of three touchdowns.
Dominating the Florida A&M Rattlers, 62-0, was exactly how the Knights needed to kick off their season if they want to get back in the playoff conversation.
Lastly, the Knights will need to remain healthy. Some speculate that if McKenzie Milton never got hurt in 2018, the playoff committee may have considered UCF more seriously.
At the very least, they might have been ranked a spot or two higher at the end of the season. Keeping the starters healthy will give confidence to the committee that the Knights will be the right choice.
