1. Jayden Daniels had a strong first start

It wasn’t perfect, it wasn’t eye-popping but it was exactly what Herm Edwards wanted to see from his starting quarterback.

Jayden Daniels won the quarterback battle this summer and it opened some eyes because he’s just a true freshman and Dillon Sterling-Cole’s experience looked like it would help. Talent trumped experience, though, and it proved to be the right decision in the opener as he passed for 284 yards and two touchdowns.

On top of that, Daniels didn’t throw a single interception and made smart reads all night long, albeit against a lackluster defense. He added 13 yards rushing and another score, but didn’t showcase his running ability much as he needed 12 carries.

Sure, Daniels could probably improve his accuracy as he was just 15-for-14, but it was the first game of his collegiate career. To say he was impressive would have been an understatement.

If he gets stronger by the week, the Sun Devils may just have a future All-Pac-12 performer under center.
