By Shelbie Warr
In the opening matchup of the season, Texas A&M football dominated Texas State 41-7. What did we learn about the Aggies in this one?
The opening of the 2019 season was a successful one for the Aggies as they dominated Texas State in every aspect of the game. Many players shined and showed a lot of growth from the 2018 season to the 2019 season opener, even considering the lack of strength of the opponent.
What did we learn from this matchup with the Bobcats of Texas State?
3. The offensive line still has some growing up to do
The Texas A&M offensive line is replacing their starting center and a starting guard this season. Now, the guy who was named the starting center, Ryan McCollum, is fighting some hopefully minor injuries and didn’t start this game.
They have a true freshman in Kenyon Green starting at guard and otherwise, there are quite a few juniors across the line that just don’t have the same level of experience that was on the line a year ago.
It took Texas A&M awhile to get the running game going due to the offensive line just not able to make those blocks necessary to let Jashaun Corbin and Isaiah Spiller get the time and spice that they needed to make big plays that the Aggies are used to making.
They still both finished with more than 100 rushing yards, but that kind of offensive line play will not be good enough when you are facing the top team in the nation a week from now as the Aggies trip to Clemson.
