Oklahoma football opens its 2019 season, and playoff run, with a matchup against D’Eriq King and the Houston Cougars. What can we expect?

There are new things going on in Norman and Houston. The Sooners have a new quarterback and the Cougars have a new head coach.

What can we expect from the season opener?

3. Sooners will have a field day running the football

One of the benefits to having a quarterback like Alabama graduate transfer Jalen Hurts is the contribution he’ll make to the run game.

Make no mistake, outgoing and No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft Kyler Murray was a large part of the Sooner running game with 1,000 yards on the ground. Not only will Jalen Hurts have a big day on the ground, you will see a heavy dose of both Kennedy Brooks and Trey Sermon.

Lincoln Riley understands the role of the quarterback in the running game and Jalen Hurts just might have 100 yards tonight because the Houston Cougars have to replace their entire defensive line.

Not only that, they completely collapsed at the end of last season giving up 56.5 points per game in a four game stretch last season. They were awful against the run last season giving up 221.3 yards per game on the ground. The Sooners should have no problem moving the ball on the ground.
