Mike Gundy’s Oklahoma State football team opened 2019 with a definitive victory against Oregon State on Friday night.

Coming off of a 7-6 mark in 2018, Mike Gundy’s Oklahoma State team is looking to elevate this season. A dominant win in the season opener certainly set the tone.

3. Cowboys dominated third down

Isolating one stat to tell the story of a game can be a bit narrow-minded, but the Cowboys were just so darn good on third down. When faced with those situations, they converted 77 percent of the time.

The Beavers were already at a disadvantage, but when you can’t put away a team on third down, it becomes an even more frustrating night. That was the case Friday. Every time Oregon State made a couple nice defensive plays, Tim Tibesar’s defense was unable to finish the job.

As a result, the perennially struggling Beavers are once again in the loss column.
