2. Houston’s rough road ahead

The Oklahoma Sooners are likely to be atop the college football rankings throughout the entire season. However, based on Houston’s performance, this may be one of a handful of losses this year. The Cougars still have Washington State, Cincinnati, UCF, and Memphis on their schedule.

Mike Leach’s offense looks to be unstoppable, once again. Therefore, Houston is in legitimate danger of losing their second game of the season withing three weeks.

In Week 6, the Cougars will host a Cincinnati team that is coming off a school-best, 11-2 season. The Bearcats cruised to victory over a solid UCLA Bruins team in Week 1.

UCF still appears to be the best Group of 5 team, especially with Brandon Wimbush leading the charge. This game will be played in UCF’s “Bounce House” in Orlando. The Knights will be heavily favored against Houston.

And lastly, the Memphis Tigers will be another extremely difficult challenge. Memphis gave the SEC its first loss from a non-Power Five opponent this season when they beat Ole Miss, 15-10.

Given all of this, Dana Holgorsen could easily find himself with five losses in his first season with the Houston Cougars.
