3. Ian Book was calm, cool and collected

Unlike last year when Brandon Wimbush was benched after three games, Ian Book will remain the starter for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He established himself in 2018 after taking over for Wimbush and leading Notre Dame all the way to the College Football Playoff.

Book looked even better than last year in this opener against the Louisville Cardinals. The offense ran smoothly and Book’s confidence was as high as ever.

Ian Book finished the game with 193 yards passing on 14-of-23 completions and a single touchdown. He also showed some improved abililty on the ground by rushing for 81 yards and a touchdown. We can explain Notre Dame’s slow start on offense by the nature of the first-game nerves.

Naturally, there are plenty of kinks to be worked out over the next two weeks as Notre Dame prepares for both New Mexico and Georgia.
