3. Purdue at Nevada

In 2018, the Purdue Boilermakers made a dramatic impact on the college football world when they defeated Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 8, 49-20. This 29-point victory was significant enough that the College Football Playoff Committee left Ohio State out of 2018 College Football Playoff, despite winning the Big Ten Championship and having a 12-1 record.

To start off the 2019 season, Purdue traveled to Reno to take on the Nevada Wolfpack. The Boilermakers had big expectations heading into the year, and frankly, they did not get off to a good start. Nevada entered halftime trailing, 24-7. However, they fought their way back to tie the game late in the fourth quarter.

The Wolfpack drove down the field and freshman kicker, Brandon Talton, knocked in a 56-yard field goal to win the game, 34-31. Not surprisingly, he was awarded a scholarship after the game.

While this was a big win for the Wolfpack, it was a terrible loss for Purdue. They now face an uphill battle all season long against the rest of the Big Ten. If they can’t beat a Nevada team that went 8-5 in the Mountain West last season, they are going to have a rough year in conference play.
