2. Idaho at Penn State

During training camp, the Penn State starting offensive and defensive players were forced to play against the opposing scout teams. Well, this Week 1 matchup against the Idaho Vandals were essentially a worse version of their scout teams without the danger of hurting a teammate.

Sean Clifford, Penn State’s new starting quarterback, was able to get his feet wet against what will be the easiest defense he will face all season. By the middle of the third quarter, James Franklin pulled Clifford out of the game and started to sprinkle in his backups throughout the field. Idaho still couldn’t stop the second and third string Nittany Lions from running the score up against them.

Penn State was only three scores from putting up 100 points on the Vandals. The Nittany Lions kicked two field goals early in the first half. Had those field goals been touchdowns, the game would have ended 88-7. However, with those possessions only ending in three points a piece, Penn State won, 79-7.
