The opening weekend of college football is in the books. Which teams would make the 2019 College Football Playoff if the season ended today?

Week 1 had its fair share of upsets, wild plays, and exhilarating finishes. At the top, however, the best teams held serve to start the season. The suspense comes at the fourth spot, so we’ll count down from number one.

1. Clemson (def. Georgia Tech 52-14)

After a full football weekend, the Tigers wins on Thursday night feels like it happened an eternity ago. On the opening drive, the Clemson offense stalled and punted, but concern was temporarily lifted when Georgia Tech muffed the punt, and Trevor Lawrence punched in a score not shortly after.

Lawrence wasn’t the highlight for the rest of the game, though. He wasn’t very good on Thursday night, going 13-of-23 for 168 yards with two picks. Instead, it was Travis Etienne who grabbed all the headlines. He had 205 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries.

What’s next for the Tigers?

While Lawrence’s night was concerning, the Tigers still won this game by a score of 52-14. They remain number one for now, but Texas A&M comes to town next week, and they have revenge on the mind.
