2020 NFL Mock Draft: First round projections after Week 1
The Eagles have one of the best and most complete rosters in the league thanks to Howie Roseman’s exceptional work over the years. Because of this, the Eagles are able to draft however they want and can mostly ignore needs. The offensive line is great, the quarterback is established, and the defense has solid players throughout.
Maybe the Eagles could use a receiver here, but they just drafted JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Dallas Goedert and have plenty of running backs to complement those younger pieces. So why not go with a high-ceiling pass rusher?
Robinson specializes in speed rushing off the edge and could be a situational pass rusher for the Eagles early. If he learns to develop more to his game then the Eagles may have one of the late-round steals here.
There’s a great benefit to going to a team like the Eagles for a guy like Robinson. He will have time to take his lumps and learn the speed of the NFL plus evolve as a pass rusher all while not having to worry about being labeled a bust. Derek Barnett was taken two years ago by the Eagles with a similar career track in mind. Barnett had five sacks his rookie season and just 2.5 last year, but he’s still only just a piece on the defense.
It’s not the most glamorous start to a career, but it just might be the most effective.
