SEC Football Power Rankings, Week 1: Can anyone catch Alabama?
Expectations weren’t extremely high for the Ole Miss Rebels, but most believed that the offense would at least be fun and formidable enough to keep optimism alive in Oxford. Saturday’s performance did exactly the opposite.
The Rebels were underdogs, so the loss wasn’t a huge surprise, but the way the loss happened was. Matt Corral was 9-of-19 for 93 yards and an interception. Scottie Phillips wasn’t much more productive, averaging only 3.3 yards per carry.
Will Muschamp’s loss on Saturday speaks for itself. The Gamecocks fell to North Carolina by a score of 24-20. This is the same Tar Heel team that finished with a 2-9 mark a season ago, and is coached by Mack Brown, who’s been out of the game since his Texas departure over a decade ago.
A side effect of this result was the loss of Jake Bentley. He’ll now miss significant time going forward with a foot injury.
