SEC Football Power Rankings, Week 1: Can anyone catch Alabama?
A win is a win, but the Razorback win over Portland State on Saturday was as ugly as it gets. Both offenses were a combined 7-of-28 on third down, and nearly offense could sustain much success. The Razorbacks did open with a ten-point first quarter, which proved to be the difference. However, if Chad Morris’ team can’t pull away from an FCS opponent, it’s going to be a long year.
Coming into the season, the narrative on Missouri was that, due to NCAA sanctions, this team would be playing with an edge and a chip on their shoulder. On Saturday, that wasn’t exactly the case.
The offense played well enough, but a 27-point explosion from Wyoming in the second quarter had the Tigers playing catch-up for the rest of the game. Kelly Bryant threw for 423 yards, but finished with a QBR of only 68.6.
The undoing for Barry Odom’s team was turnovers and big plays. If Missouri can eliminate the most egregious of those going forward, it’ll go a long way.
