Tennessee is coming off an embarrassing loss and BYU football is coming off a more expected one. Now, the two face off. Here’s what you need to know.

In Week1, BYU faced off against Utah and while they hung in for a little bit, ultimately it was the Utes that pulled off that win in extremely convincing fashion.

On the other side, Tennessee lost in embarrassing fashion to Georgia State- a game they had no business losing at all. If there was such thing as official rock bottom, the Volunteers may have officially reached that spot. BYU was expected to lose, but the Volunteers? Man, that was just disappointing.

Now, the two face off in a game that will be season-defining for both programs.

Keys to Victory

First of all, Tennessee needs this win and they need it in a bad way. They lost to a Georgia State team that is nowhere in the same league as them. The Volunteers will have to establish their defensive front against BYU quarterback Zach Wilson. The secondary for Tennessee wasn’t all that bad in their loss against Georgia State and they have that leg up against some decently strong receivers.

BYU has to get their pass rush going because they got next to nothing against the Utes. They need to get Guarantano to win this one through the air by eliminating the ground game. Their loss to Utah was more about the Utes being really good than it was about BYU disappointing anyone.

Prediction

The media has Tennessee winning this one, but honestly, I just can’t see it happening. I don’t see the Volunteers being able to handle much more than a little bit of adversity in this one and on the other hand, BYU may have only lost to a team good enough to win the Pac-12. Meanwhile, Tennessee lost to a team that isn’t even the best in their conference much less good enough to win a title. I’ve got BYU in this one.

Final Score: BYU 24, Tennessee 14
