LSU Football: 3 bolds predictions for Tigers vs. Texas in Week 2
3. Sam Ehlinger is the game’s leading rusher
Both defenses figure to have the advantage in the trenches, meaning it could be up to the two dual-threat quarterbacks to make plays on the ground as well as through the air. Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger has some Tim Tebow to his game and the 6-foot-3, 230-pound junior will have to make some plays on the ground for Texas to have a shot in this game.
Ehlinger threw for four touchdowns last week against Louisiana Tech, but LSU will present a much stiffer challenge with a loaded secondary ready to lock-down Texas’ receivers. Ehlinger and company will likely try to pick on true freshman cornerback Derek Stingley, but the five-star is likely to be up to the challenge.
I think LSU’s defensive front will overwhelm Keaontay Ingram and the Texas running game, but Ehlinger is going to be able to break free for a couple of big runs to keep the Texas offense rolling early in the game.
Ehlinger is likely to face a good bit of pressure from a deep and experienced LSU defensive front, but he’s savvy enough to get away from the pressure and make some plays with his legs. It’s likely to take an all-world effort from the Longhorns junior for Texas to have any shot at pulling off this upset.
On the other end, LSU struggled to run the ball effectively against Georgia Southern, managing 122 yards on 33 carries. The onus will likely be on Joe Burrow to push the ball down the field and make plays for LSU to come out on top.
