In a top 10 showdown in Austin with playoff implications, LSU football takes on Texas. Can the Tigers come up with the victory on the road?
After taking down Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, many Texas fans feel like they can take on the world. However, this is a very different Longhorn team than what played in bowl season a year ago. While they seem to have grown offensively, it is on defense that they seem to be weaker than they were a year ago.
On the other side is an LSU team that seems to have grown quite a bit in the offseason on both sides of the ball, despite what they lost to the draft.
I’ve got LSU in this one with the victory, but let’s talk about why.
3. Does Texas have enough RBs to establish run game?
The Longhorns didn’t have a 100-yard rusher against Louisiana Tech and now they are even thinner at the position than they were before.
Heading into the season, they were down three veterans due to injury in senior Kirk Johnson, junior Daniel Young and walk-on Jarrett Smith. Now, it gets even worse as true freshman Jordan Whittington needs surgery to repair a sports hernia sustained against Louisiana Tech. He limped off the field in the second quarter and did not return and now we know why.
Sam Ehlinger can move and they have Keaontay Ingram who rushed for 78 yards against Louisiana Tech, but otherwise, they don’t have much experience or back up going for this game or for any games in the near future it seems. Watch out for that lack of depth on Saturday.
