Baylor football had no problem with UTSA in a nice Week 2 warmup and it all started with the run game. The offense was on fire Saturday.

Matt Rhule knew he had a talented team returning from a nice turnaround season a year ago and the Bears are off to a 2-0 start — they’ve already seen more wins this season than they did in all of 2017 under the head coach.

The Bears ran away with a Week 2 victory over UTSA 63-14 and the game wasn’t in doubt from the opening kickoff.

In fact, Baylor held a 35-0 lead at halftime and did nothing but build on that in the second half thanks to some solid throws by Charlie Brewer in just 16 attempts. He completed 12 of his passes for 163 yards and three touchdowns and fans even got a chance to see the highly-touted backup Gerry Bohanon.

While the passing game, led by a Denzel Mims 100-yard performance, was on point in limited opportunities, it was the run game that stole the show.

The backs could do no wrong all afternoon long, dominating UTSA in the trenches as the lines opened some gaping holes and even Bohanon. Heck, even Brewer reached the end zone on a run as the ground game totaled five touchdowns on Saturday in Waco.

If this trend continues, the Big 12 will certainly be put on high alert when facing the Bears. Sure, this was only UTSA, but rushing for a total of 368 yards on 39 carries — a 9.4 yards per carry average — is impressive against any FBS foe.

Bohanon flashed his dual-threat ability with an impressive 93-yard performance with a touchdown on seven carries, leading all rushers. Trestan Ebner had 76 yards on only four carries, John Lovett had nine carries for 69 yards and Qualan Jones had two carries for 63 yards and a score.

JaMycal Hasty and Chris Platt each reached the end zone with one rushing score apiece as well.

Brewer might give the illusion that this is a pass-first offense, but Baylor has an elite run game, at least so far this season.
