BYU Football: 3 takeaways from shocking win over Tennessee
For the second week in a row, Tennessee was the victim of an upset, this time to BYU football. What did we learn from the Cougars’ win?
Once again, Tennessee finds themselves on the losing end to a team they were favored against. Once again, there are very few positives to take away from this performance.
It was an ugly game for both teams, but ultimately, the Cougars come away the victors.
3. Tennessee had an uninspiring bounce-back
Last week, the Volunteers suffered the most embarrassing loss in recent history in Knoxville, falling to Georgia State. That should have been the kind of result that lit a fire underneath a proud football team.
Instead, Tennessee picked up where they left off, falling to 0-2. On Saturday night they lost in overtime to a lowly BYU team that was rendered dormant offensively by Utah last week.
It may only be year two, but the questions about Jeremy Pruitt have to be piling up. It’s tough to find any real improvements from this team, especially considering it is the second year. Pruitt isn’t in the process of figuring out what he has, this is supposed to be the challenging, yet encouraging season.
It would be one thing if the Vols were dropping tight matchups to superior teams, and showing heart while they did it, but these two weeks have been the opposite. There are major concerns in Knoxville, and with the SEC schedule looming, there doesn’t appear to be much light at the end of the tunnel.
