Michigan State football defeated the Western Michigan Broncos at home in East Lansing. Here are three takeaways from Saturday night’s game.
Michigan State’s offense was under the microscope all week long and the Spartans responded with a 51-17 blowout win over Western Michigan.
What did we learn from the Spartans’ huge win?
3. The offense looked fantastic
All three levels of the offense looked fantastic tonight against an inferior Western Michigan Broncos defense. Every question people had last week after their win against Tulds was answered this week against Western Michigan.
The offensive line was fantastic all night against the Broncos. The Spartans pushed the Broncos around up front for four quarters. Michigan State ran at will against the Broncos defense. Led by Elijah Collins’ 192 rushing yards The Spartans ran for 244 yards and three touchdowns averaging 7.4 yards per carry.
Brian Lewerke had a fantastic game throwing the football because he had time. He completed 71 percent of his throws, going 23-for-32 with 314 yards and three touchdowns. Most importantly, he wasn’t sacked tonight and he was accurate. Lewerke’s throws were on time, and on the numbers of his receivers.
Speaking of receivers, Michigan State’s wide outs didn’t leave many receptions on the turf tonight. The Spartans averaged 13.8 yards per catch and three touchdown catches. What was most impressive were the chunk plays the Spartans had through the air. Spartan receivers had three receptions over 20 yards including a 42-yard catch by Stewart Jr.
