Mississippi State football took care of business against Southern Miss with a 38-15 victory on Saturday. What’d we learn from the contest?

Mississippi State hosted Southern Miss in what was just their fifth matchup since 1989. The Bulldogs came away on top as they won by over three touchdowns. Even though the score wasn’t close, Southern Miss had its chances and it was a more competitive game than the score says.

What’d we learn from Mississippi State’s second win of the year?

3. Tommy Stevens suffered injury scare

Tommy Stevens was on his way to having another good game for the second straight week in a row. He helped lead the Bulldogs to a quick 14-0 lead as he was 9-for-9 with a little over 100 yards passing and two touchdowns. He only threw one other pass after the hot start and ended the day going 9-for-10.

The Penn State transfer exited the game and never returned.

The announcers said they think it was an injury to his shoulder, but we won’t speculate. Long story short, depending how serious Stevens’ injury is, this could have a big impact on the Bulldogs. Stevens was showing great anticipation and looked extremely comfortable in the offense and had them moving at a good pace.

Hopefully Stevens can get back on the field soon because the Bulldogs will need him under center as their schedule starts to get tougher and tougher.
