Nebraska Football: 3 takeaways from crushing loss at Colorado
Colorado won an overtime thriller against Nebraska football on Saturday. What did we learn from the Buffaloes’ thrilling win?
After looking like it was headed for a route, Colorado roared back in the fourth quarter to come back and win on Saturday. It was an energizing day in Boulder, and an instant classic in one of college football’s traditional rivalries.
3. A tale of two halves
At halftime, this one had blowout written all over it. The Huskers led 17-0, and the offense was firing on all cylinders.
Quarterback Adrian Martinez was 9 for 9 with 180 yards and a touchdown, plus 45 rushing yards and a score on the ground. Meanwhile, the Nebraska defense had limited Colorado to an impressive 0 yards on the ground.
However, in the second half, things changed. Jaren Mangham punched in a touchdown from 11 yards out to give the Buffs their first points late in the third quarter.
Then in the fourth, things really got crazy. Steven Montez found KD Nixon for a 96-yard touchdown strike to open the quarter. Then, after trading a few more scores and now trailing by seven with :46 seconds, Montez found Tony Brown in the corner of the end zone to bring the game even and force overtime.
Then, a Mustafa Johnson sack of Adrian Martinez on third down in overtime forced the Huskers to take a long 48-yard field goal. They would miss, and the Buffs would complete the comeback.
