Penn State football needed a second-half comeback to pull away from Buffalo, winning 45-13. Here are three takeaways from the game.
Penn State faced Buffalo Saturday night from Beaver Stadium. The Lions faced more of challenge than they did from Idaho last week, trailing the Bulls at halftime 10-7. In the second half they made adjustments and looked better, pulling away to win 45-13.
Penn State moves to 2-0 and will face rival Pitt next Saturday. Buffalo falls to 1-1 and continue on the road at Liberty next week. Here are three takeaways from tonight’s game.
3. Buffalo had a great game plan from the start
Most did not predict a freshman quarterback to play so cool and collected in front of a raucous crowd. But that is exactly what true freshman Matt Myers did for the Bulls in the first half.
Last week versus Robert Morris, Myers only threw ten passes. He threw more than that in the first half and was fairly accurate on his throws. The Bulls also had a great game plan to run the ball behind their experienced offensive line. The Penn State defense was off in the first half and Buffalo took full advantage.
In a game like this, the stats actually lie for the final outcome. The Bulls racked up a total of 430 yards to Penn State’s 359. The Bulls had the ball for over 42 minutes in this one and had a shocking three point lead at the break. The Bulls also were much better on third downs, converting over half of their conversions.
However in the second half, Penn State’s talent advantage took over with the Lions pulling away. But Buffalo has a lot of good things to build off from this one as they head into MAC play in the next couple weeks.
