UCF football left no doubt that they are the top Group of Five team at this point of the 2019 season as they dismantled FAU on its home field.

While other teams have stepped up and done their best to assert their case to take the mantle as the top team in the Group of Five, UCF remains the gold standard outside the Power Five. The Knights went to Boca Raton on Saturday night in Week 2 and deconstructed Lane Kiffin’s Owls in a 48-14 beatdown.

On a day when other American Athletic Conference contenders such as Cincinnati and South Florida fell apart and suffered their first losses of the season, the Knights stayed undefeated in the regular season dating back to 2016. Even in a game shortened due to weather, nothing could stop the Knights.

After dropping a spot in last week’s AP Top 25 despite posting a 62-0 shutout of Florida A&M, it will be interesting to see how pollsters perceive this most recent whitewashing of an overmatched opponent. The Knights continue to suffer from a schedule that lags in strength behind the Power Five teams against which they are compared. In the end, though, there is little they can do about that besides confront each opponent that comes up on their schedule.

This week the Knights dispatched the Owls with a flourish. What did we learn about the best team in the Group of Five after this victory? Keep reading for three key takeaways from the big UCF victory on Saturday night in Boca Raton.
