2. The UCF backfield is among deepest units in the country

Where UCF needs no improvement is on the ground, where they feature one of the most deadly and deep backfields in the entire country. After ranking eighth nationally in rushing yards per game last season, the Knights are right back among the top running attacks in the FBS.

Including Gabriel, the Knights saw five different players run the ball in for a touchdown. Greg McCrae punched in the first score less than two minutes into the game, and Adrian Killins added another rushing touchdown midway through the second quarter. Along the way he drags several FAU defenders with him, showcasing the power and determination of a guy who currently sits second on the depth chart.

Otis Anderson, the team’s hybrid receiver/running back, added a 39-yard scoring run just before halftime as UCF started to really put the game out of reach. Dillon Gabriel and Bentavious Thompson added two more scores in the second half, as the Knights finished the game with five rushing touchdowns and more than 300 rushing yards as a team.

With McCrae, Killins, Anderson, and Thompson all available for reps in the backfield, it gives UCF a wealth of riches that helps maintain their position atop the Group of Five. They showed on Saturday why any one of them could break out at any given moment.
