The 2019 college football season is only two weeks in, but who are the frontrunners for this year’s Heisman Trophy after Week 2?

We’ve had an interesting start to the 2019 college football season to say the least. With two weeks out of the way, we have learned a lot already. There are a few teams that are surprising us with how well they are playing, but it appears as if there have been more disappointments than anything else so far. Whether it’s Florida State or Washington, teams just haven’t lived up to the hype.

One thing we can enjoy so far is elite play from top players. There were some big names to start the year, but others have been surprising sensations. We are still months away from handing out any hardware, but who remain at the front of the 2019 Heisman Trophy race?

Honorable mentions

Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama

We all know how hard it is to win the Heisman Trophy as a wide receiver. Don’t let that be the reason why you discount Jerry Jeudy, however. It is clear that he is the best wide receiver in college football, and Alabama’s new offensive system will let him flex.

Jeudy already has two games with over 100 receiving yards and at least one touchdown. He had three against New Mexico State. He will have to wait until he sees a tougher opponent to have a potential Heisman moment, but the talent and stats will be there for him to earn votes.

Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson

Trevor did improve in the second game of his sophomore season, but he’s not playing at an elite level just yet. He will certainly receive Heisman votes just from the hype, but I’m not sure if he is going to have a big enough game late in the season to win the trophy. Don’t count him out, but he has started the year behind the 8-ball, and his turnovers are not helping matters. We’ll see if he can just win the trophy on stats alone, but that likely will not work with other quarterbacks getting off to a better start.
