Ohio State football had one of the best weeks of any Power Five team, beating Group of Five contender Cincinnati 42-0. Time to overreact.
Cincinnati was supposed to put up a fight, but the Bearcats couldn’t manage a single point against Ohio State in a 42-0 thumping in Columbus on Saturday.
The outcome was never in doubt as the Buckeyes took it to the Bearcats and former interim coach Luke Fickell, sending them back down the road with an “L” and plenty of question marks as far as the New Year’s Six race goes.
Now, it’s time to overreact to the Buckeyes’ convincing win.
3. Chase Young is nation’s best defender
Chase Young is good. Like really, really good. And he had himself quite the game against Cincinnati, causing havoc in the backfield and making life difficult for Desmond Ridder, but some have come out and said that he’s clearly the best defensive player in the nation, and that’s just not true — yet.
Any team in college football would kill to have a guy like Young on the roster and he’s probably at least a top 2-3 player in the country, but he might not even be the best defensive end in his own conference. He has the talent to be just that, but he hasn’t proven quite as much as a guy like Kenny Willekes or even AJ Epenesa.
Guys like Bryce Hall or Grant Delpit or Derrick Brown or Raekwon Davis would take offense to Young being named the best defensive player in the nation. Heck, even Willekes would after being named the Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year last season.
Young had a great game and is one of the most disruptive forces in the country, but he still has some proving to do.
