Many were worried about the future of USC football after JT Daniels went down, but all doubt subsided after a win over Stanford. Let’s completely overreact.

The Trojans did it. After a nightmare opener, which nearly resulted in a loss, against Fresno State, USC bounced back against Stanford, putting the hurt on David Shaw and the ranked Cardinal, 45-20.

The win was enough to get USC back in the AP Top 25 this week and take the pressure off Clay Helton, for the moment. But fans were over-reactionary, nonetheless.

Let’s completely overreact to USC’s win over Stanford.

3. This team might contend for the Pac-12 title, after all

Everyone was down after the Fresno State loss. Fans were already talking about the demise of the USC football program. It almost felt like the Trojans lost to the Bulldogs in Week 1.

And then Week 2 happened.

Stanford came to town and USC throttled the Cardinal in the second half after a back-and-forth first half. The better team won and it was led by a revelation at quarterback in Kedon Slovis. Maybe losing JT Daniels wasn’t the worst thing to happen to this team, but rather opened the door for a better passer? You never want to see anyone injured, though.

But beating a ranked Pac-12 team by 25 points is a good start. This could be the momentum swing the Trojans needed to get to the conference title game and finally prove the doubters wrong.
