You can bet Washington football wants Saturday night’s game against Cal back, but the Golden Bears pulled off the shocking upset in Seattle.

Settle down, Washington fans, one loss won’t ruin an entire season, especially not in Week 2. Losing to Cal in Seattle was a tough pill to swallow for the “Washington to the playoff” crowd, but there are still 10 games left to prove that this was only a fluke.

The Huskies were disappointing in the loss and Jacob Eason looked like a shell of himself from Week 1, but the weather delay made things tough on both sides as neither team — outside of the defenses — looked all that great.

Without further ado, let’s completely overreact to the Washington loss.

3. Salvon Ahmed is unquestioned No. 1 back

There have been questions popping up about Myles Gaskin’s replacement in 2019 and the preseason answer was Salvon Ahmed, but he struggled in Week 1, but bounced back with 119 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries against Cal.

So he has to be the unquestioned starter in the backfield, right?

Many have just assumed this, even after his shaky Week 1 showing, but nothing is set in stone. While Ahmed might get the starts in most games, he might not always finish with the most carries as a guy like Richard Newton has been playing well this season.

We can’t forget that Ahmed rushed for only 44 yards on 15 carries against Eastern Washington while Newton had 91 yards on 12 carries. The two could form a solid 1-2 punch, but neither is the unquestioned leader just yet.
